Welcome Statement from the Director of the Public Health Academy

Dear colleagues, partners, and future public health leaders,

It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I welcome the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) to its new home within the Public Health Academy.

As a national center of excellence, the Public Health Academy is dedicated to advancing public health education, workforce development, and leadership capacity across Saudi Arabia. Through specialized training programs, strategic partnerships, and evidence-based curricula, we empower professionals to address emerging health challenges and improve population outcomes. The integration of FETP into our ecosystem reflects this mission in action.

This transition marks a significant milestone in our national journey toward strengthening public health capacity and advancing epidemiological excellence.

Since its launch in 1988, FETP has served as a cornerstone of disease surveillance and outbreak response in the Kingdom. It has provided vital training grounds for health professionals to become “disease detectives,” equipping them with the practical skills needed to investigate outbreaks, analyze data, and implement effective control measures.

At the Public Health Academy, we are committed to fostering innovation, collaboration, and evidence-based practice. By integrating FETP into our academic and training ecosystem, we aim to empower a new generation of field epidemiologists with the tools, mentorship, and global perspective needed to protect and promote health across communities.

To our trainees, alumni, and stakeholders: welcome to a new and exciting chapter. We look forward to working together to elevate public health education and impact—locally, regionally, and globally.

Sincerely,

Dr. Muhannad Sulaiman Aloraini

Public Health Academy Director
